How to make the most of Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm and the jungle city beyond.
Angkor is a city, not a single temple, and it deserves at least three days. Begin with sunrise at Angkor Wat, then explore the enigmatic faces of the Bayon and the jungle-strangled roots of Ta Prohm in the cool of the morning.
Buy a multi-day pass and hire a tuk-tuk driver for the grand and small circuits. Pace yourself in the heat, carry water and take a long lunch in Siem Reap between temple clusters.
Don't miss Banteay Srei, the intricately carved 'citadel of women', best visited in the late afternoon light. Angkor is as much about the space between the temples as the stones themselves.
